Sleep is the one thing a guest cannot forgive. A hotel can get many things wrong and still be forgiven; a bad night is remembered and written about.
We are looking for sleep systems that deliver on the first night — for a guest who arrived tired, will sleep two nights and has never used this bed before. That is a different problem from a mattress a person gets used to over weeks at home.
We are looking for exceptional first-night comfort rather than unnecessarily hard mattresses. In practice this usually means a medium to medium-soft feel. Durability under hotel rotation and ease of housekeeping matter just as much.
